Spring 2009 Anime
Posted on May 7th, 2009
So as promised, here is my overview of spring anime I’ll be following. I’m still waiting for some of the dramas to be subbed so I’ll do a drama post sometime later.
Following:
Phantom Requiem – The most intriguing and promising of the lot of anime. Nice action scenes and mystery buildup. It’s kinda similar to Higashi no Eden in the sense that the main character has no collection of his past either.
Ristorante Paradiso – The dark horse of the season. A slice-of-life restaurant show featuring a group of older men (and I mean older) who work there, but surprisingly charming and interesting. It’s like a sit back and relax kinda show~
Higashi no Eden- The one with all the hype though I don’t feel it yet~ the first ep was more of a comedy slant but it’s supposed to deal with a missile attack on Japan so it will probably get darker. I can’t wait to see how that element develops.
Hanasakeru Seishounen- The premise made be a little cliche but it was actually better than I expected, and I like the art, and at least the heroine is pretty independant even though she’s a rich girl. And it looks like it’ll get more interesting as it goes along~
Hatsukoi Limited - A pleasant surprise~ It takes alot for a school slice-of-life anime to catch and hold my attention nowadays. The art isn’t fantastic but it is not as lame/random/cutesy as other highschool anime and the Japanese is clear enough for me to actually understand.
07 Ghost – Was kinda hestistant to try this, fearing it’d turn out to be like Code Geass which I didn’t take to at all… The blond guy so looks like Tamaki from Ouran ahaha. I like the idea of the students having unique abilities… man that final exam was brutal, making them fight a giant criminal. Backstory is intriguing and and… Aizen’s voice actor ?
Rant:
Sengoku Basara – … it’s so ghey!! And flashy… And what’s with the random Engrish… It’s more a comedy than a serious drama which I was hoping for… And portraying Sanada Yukimura as a young overeager punk is a turnoff… Give me the cool and crafty Yukimura from SDK anytime!! Seriously after reading Samurai Deeper Kyo, any anime or manga set in this period I’ve come across has not been able to impress me much if at all =.=

Kuroshitsuji (The Black Butler)
[Rating: 7.5/10]

Kuroshitsuji is a somewhat dark anime that takes place in Victorian England. It centers around the main chracter Sebastian Michaelis, one demon of a butler (pun intended!), who has a binding pact with Ciel Phantomhive, the young and remaining heir of the powerful Phantomhive family. Due to the Phantomhives’ strong ties with the throne, Ciel is often sent to investigate mysteries for the Queen and Sebastian aids him, often ending up being the one to save his life. Of course, there’s always more to it than meets the eye…
